I wasn't thinking of approaching it any other way. She'll not even know I'm here for as long as she wishes it.

Just as long as I'm not the only, my friend. This search of yours for a better path will get easier if you allow yourself to care for others.

I'm not opposed to it, you realise. But I also need some time.

I know, as we all do in this situation.

I've met some interesting people, and now my students, but I still rather dislike being stuck here.

[heavymetals]

I dislike being kept anywhere against my will, even if it happened to be the most idyllic reality to exist.

But I've met a few nice people so far, myself. It hasn't been the worst situation I've been in. Not that the bar is that high, in all honesty.

I will say this, there are very interesting supernatural people that I've met here. With their own gifts, for their own reasons. Mutants by another name. Which of course intrigues me.

I know. I don't think they share our genetic mutation, but it's nevertheless interesting to learn about the source of their powers. How other realities have evolved to create their own people with their own extraordinary abilities.

As far as I know none of them are the same, no, but they are similarly unique. Also I believe there are vampires. Deeply surprising.

Really? The whole 'drink blood, can't go out in sunlight' sort?

You've not offered your blood, I hope.

That's correct, although I don't know if the rules are the same.

Well I haven't yet, but one could argue it is a kind thing to do once they are established as trustworthy.

[ Meaning he probably will eventually. ]

You have to be joking.

[ Somehow he's not even a little surprised while still deeply bothered to hear this. ]

You don't owe your kindness to every single person you meet, Charles. Certainly not to a species you know so little about.

I'm not saying I'll do it for a stranger. I'll make certain they are unlikely to murder me first.

Maybe it wouldn't hurt to have a back up plan regardless.

[ Since he knows he can't possibly talk Charles out of it (as much as he'd like to). Maybe having someone him around to deal with this hypothetical vampire if they tried to take too much. ]

Indeed. A true knight in shining armour.

Then I suppose you'll owe me that. Another time.

I have a suspicion the blood drive going on in the city may be related. It is not your standard situation, I've scouted it out. I was curious. If so it seems this city has learned how to take care of its other occupants too.

[heavymetals]

This doesn't surprise me. Seen as nearly everyone here seems to have come from somewhere else, it makes sense that the city would find ways to accommodate several different types of people. Even vampires and other supernatural beings.

I've met an actual witch, for instance.

[thetruefocus]

So have I. More than one magical person, in fact. I met them on the astral plane which is a bit of a surprise as I expected to be the only one there.

[heavymetals]

So, other people with the same abilities as you. Or at least similar enough.

[ Not sure how he feels about that. ]

Perhaps. I didn't get that far. Would you like me to create walls for your mind just in case?

[heavymetals]

That would be appreciated. I don't want anyone else in my head.

[thetruefocus]

[ Charles is already in Erik's mind so it is just putting more effort into it. He is quiet for a minute as he creates the structures that Erik will need that can bounce any attempts into his mind off of. It will feel like intense pressure for a few moments in Erik's mind, almost like ears needing to be popped, and then the pop of relief comes as they center into place. ]

There. That should do it. If someone tries to push their way in you will know too, that pressure will be felt again.

[heavymetals]

[ It feels a little strange, but not uncomfortable. Erik just gives Charles the time to do whatever he needs to, something that's really beyond the scope of his own knowledge. But he trusts Charles on this.

The pressure eases eventually, and Erik takes a deep breath. ]

Thank you. If someone ever tries, I will let you know.

[ So that at least he knows if there's someone they need to keep an eye on. ]
